Both systems offer unique attributes that are sure to meet every individual requirement.

Acmeda – Folding Arm Awnings – Mornington
The Acmeda SHAN full cassette system was introduced into the Australian market in 2014 and winner of a Red Dot design award. Its unique design is complementary with the design of modern homes and town houses, integrating seamlessly with the building both in the open and closed position.

The SHAN features cutting edge European design. Widths of up to 10 meters are possible with an impressive 4-meter projection also a feature. All Acmeda Folding Arm Awning systems are independently tested by TUV Rheinland who are renowned in the field of safety certification. These systems are tested to withstand winds up to 49 km/h depending on the overall size of the individual awning as in the table below.

Arm Tension, which is critical to the durability of the Awning is provided by the unique Dynamic Arm Torsion (DAT) system that is linked together by Teflon Coated Marine Grade stainless-steel chain. The awning arms open and close without touching the fabric which is key to lengthening the life of the Fabric. As always we recommend only Dickson Acrylic Fabircs for your Folding Arm Awning.

Both systems share the same components with the key difference being the ability of the STEIN to pitch down almost vertically and act like a traditional awning. Both systems can be motorised or manually operated with a`hand held crank.

Turnils – Folding Arm Awnings – Black Rock
Not to be outdone, The Swedish brand Turnils has had a long history in Australia and has an extensive range of Folding Arm Awnings ranging from the Full Cassette Cabrera system. The unique Swedish design incorporates Dyneema technology in the arms ensuring the ultimate in durability to wear and resistance to the elements. It is available in grey, white and black as standard colours to compliment the look of every home.

Available as shown in grey and also available in white and black as standard colours.

The Turnils open style range was redesigned and launched in Australia in 2014 as the Turnils Sirocco FA40 series. Totally redesigned with Dyneema technology inside the awning arms adding to the high strenght, high fabric tension meaning your awning fabric is as tight and flat as possible. The system is modular in design and comes in 5 different versions catering for almost any situation.

The basic model, featured in the picture below is the Sirocco FA42.

Available in set fabric pitch and manually adjustable pitch, motorised or manual crank operation. This entry level system is the most cost effective in our range at present. The system is capable of widths up to 11 meters and projections of up to an impressive 4 meters. For motorisation we always recommend the Becker range of Motorisation and Automation products featuring motion sensors, multi-channel remote controls for multiple awnings, rain sensors that retract the awning in the event of rain, wind and rain sensors combined in a single unit.

All Turnils Folding Arm Awnings are tested for resistance for wind using the Beaufort Scale and European Standard EN 13651. The table below describes the breakdown of wind ratings compared to the individual systems models and sizes.

The Sirocco FA44 is the next model in the range, refered to as the design awning, the FA44 features redesigned end brackets and wall brackets that are designed to hide bolts and fixings as featured on the right

In addition to these design enhancements the FA44 also offers the option of a variable length valance in the front bar of the awning.

Manually operated it is possible to house a screen mesh fabric inside the front bar that can be rolled down as required. This is ideal in the situation where west facing areas become exposed to the lower angle of the sun later in the day. Rolling down the valance will provide additional shade to the area without having to adjust the angle of the awning and as such the height of the awning. A maximum drop of 2.4 meters is possible in this scenario. With the roller valance the maximum width of the FA48 is restricted to 7 meters but it is still possible to enjoy the full 4 meter projection. The FA44 is of course available without the roller valance and as such can extend to the full 11 meters in width.
For narrow spaces it has not always been possible to use a Folding Arm Awning, Turnils get around much of this problem with the next model in the range the FA45 Cross Over Arm version as pictured on the right

This system is capable of narrow widths down to 1332mm. Ideal for small courtyard areas where space is at a premium.

This is achieved by changing the geometry of the awning in such a way as to enable the arms to cross over one another enabling a very narrow width.
If head room is a problem near patio doors with your particular area turnils may be able to help with that too with the innovative Sirocco FA46 Fabric Beam as featured in the picture on the right

This unique system has inverted arm geometry allowing for added height clearance from the floor to the bottom of the awning arm.

This is particularly useful in situations of limited space to mount the awning as often happens above patio doorways.

In addition to this quite practical feature, the FA46 is quite aesthetically unique with the addition of the “Fabric Beam” creating a beautiful contour over the fabric. As with the FA44 a roller front valance can be added to this awning to create quite a unique model!

Rounding out the Turnils range is the FA48 Semi Cassette. Possibly the most cost effective Semi Cassette on the market in Australia, the FA48 combines the ability to enclose the fabric when not in use, thus extending the life of the fabric, like a full cassette, but offers the flexibility of mounting options of an open style awning and a more modest price point to.

The FA48 has a maximum width of 7 meters and a projection of 3.5 meters. It is also available in both Manual operation and Motorised. The full suite of Becker Automation products is available for the system.
